Goal
While working at Colegia, I worked on this project from scratch. The project timeline was 6 months.
- As a UX Designer, I worked closely with the team to uncover opportunities, validate concepts, and design the product through iterative testing and experimentation.
- Performed user research, A/B testing, and data analysis to identify features that would most effectively enhance user conversion.
Workflow and Approach
-
Beginning: The process started with identifying key features and reviewing the Product Requirements Document (PRD) from the product manager. The end users were students, teachers, and parents.
-
Research: Gathered data related to mindfulness products, conducted competitive analysis and explored popular apps like Headspace, Nike Run Club, Strava, Wysa, Apple Fitness, Apple Health, and Google Fit for inspiration.
I also used Mobbin to analyze various UIs, documented insights and held meetings with teammates to discuss the flow of different apps.
- Challenging Part: One of the main challenges was understanding how the Apple Watch operates. I analyzed its functionality, identified the types of data it can capture, and documented these insights to share with the team. Since I hadn’t worked with smartwatches before, this was a new experience for me.
- Flowchart & Useflow: After completing the research, we designed a detailed flowchart outlining the product's features from start to finish, ensuring that the entire team understood the process and steps.
- Ideation, Wireframing & UI Design: The design process began with brainstorming and sketching ideas on paper, translating those into low-fidelity wireframes. After refining the concepts, the final high-fidelity UI design was completed in Figma, ensuring a well-structured and user-friendly experience.
-
Design System: The team lead made sure we strictly followed the iOS design system since the app was for Apple devices. In the end, we created our own design system to meet our specific needs while still following Apple's guidelines.
-
Interesting Part: Designing for the Apple Watch was a new and exciting experience for me, as I was eager to learn and apply something entirely different.
- User Testing, Feedback & Iteration: Feedback was crucial for delivering a quality product. We conducted interviews, surveys, and feedback sessions with teammates, the product owner, developers, teachers, and students to gather data. These insights helped drive changes through data-driven solutions.
- Developer Handoff: In the final stage, I structured the design files, added flows, and provided annotations to ensure a smooth handoff to developers.
✨Learnings✨
- Collecting data and continuous feedback from the team and product owners sped up the process.
- Gained valuable experience designing for the Apple Watch.
- Learned how to apply iOS design system guidelines to create a consistent user experience.
